Searching for Scholarships Online

TIP OF THE DAY

Searching for Scholarships Online

Dozens of Web sites offer scholarship search services. Always be wary of any site where the claims sound too good to be true. Some of the more reputable Web-based scholarship searches are the FastWeb Search and SallieMae Wired Scholar.

When conducting your searches, always verify with the originating source. No, that doesn't mean the first place you saw it. Rather, if you find information about a scholarship offered by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, for example, go to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Web site and verify that the information you saw on the other site is true.

You also want to verify that your application arrived and that you're correctly in the system. Without confirmation, you never know if all your hard work preparing the application went down the tubes, or up in smoke.
